Our Church

We invite you to worship, fellowship, learn and grow with us. Our Mission is to fulfill our calling as a Church of our Lord Jesus Christ in Traer, and in the World.

Ripley Church is part of the United Church of Christ Denomination, and comes from the Congregational heritage. The Pilgrims are perhaps its most familiar American ancestors. The congregation was founded in a log cabin in 1856. The cornerstone for the current building was laid in 1900. The building is classic design, but stays with the times with air-conditioning, and easy-access entrance, and an elevator.

Ripley is in the Central Association of the Iowa Conference of the United Church of Christ denomination of the Christian religion. We elect delegates to the Central Association and the Conference. Being a Congregational denomination, the UCC does not require that a certain congregation believe exactly thus-and-so.

Although we at Ripley hold many things in common with our denominational heritage, and with other Christian churches, we might not be just like another UCC church you may know. We invite you to get to know us, and let us get to know you, as we seek together to worship God and to preach, teach, live and share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • We are an open church where all are welcome, and we believe the Bible to be the Word of God.
  • We are free and independent, without a bishop or synod, responsible only to Jesus Christ as the Lord of the Church.
  • We promote Faith, Freedom, and Fellowship.
  • We promote youth and adult missions.
  • We have a rich history in the Congregational Way dating back to our origin of 1856.
  • We are a multi-dimensional organism made up of of ordinary people who want to do the will of God in their community.
